The Chamber of Wonders
The Chamber of Wonders is one of the many testimonies of the passage of the Arabs in Sicily. Hidden in an apartment inside an 18th-century building in the centre of Palermo, (in Via Porta di Castro, 239), the Chamber is entirely painted blue and decorated with silver Arabic lettering. According to scholars, the blue room dates back to the 19th century and would seem to have been either a secret chamber, in which magical-esoteric rites of a Masonic nature took place, or a “room of prayer”, given its orientation towards Mecca.
