Church of Santa Maria della Catena
The Church of Santa Maria della Catena can be reached by means of a high staircase from the Doganella square. It owes its name to the chain on an external wall, which was used in ancient times to close the port. It was built at the beginning of the 16th century in Gothic-Catalan style with Renaissance reinterpretations and is attributed to Matteo Carnelivari.
On the front of the church is a tripartite portico enhanced by the bas-reliefs of Vincenzo Gagini. The interior features a central nave and two side aisles separated by lowered arches. Most of the frescoes are by Olivio Sozzi.
