Church of Santa Maria degli Agonizzanti

Located in front of Monreale Cathedral, the Church of Santa Maria degli Agonizzanti was built in the 15th century on a pre-existing Arab building. Covered by a vault, it was adorned with high-relief and stucco decorations and statues by Serpotta. Inside the church, a Norman wall has been uncovered: decorated with “blind ogival architectures”, it is below the current surface level of both the church and the square, so access is by means of steps.
